The annual Oranyan/Oranmiyan festival is an event held in Oyo in the ninth month of the year. The festival has its origin from Oranmiyan, Oduduwa’s grandson, who founded the Oyo Empire in the 15th century. The Empire grew to become one of the largest in West Africa.

Its strength, gained from the empire’s organizational skill, was used to prosecute many wars through which the empire was able to expand its territory.

Judge dismisses $3 Million lawsuit from dethroned Miss Puerto Rico who got pregnant after winning crown

Kristhielee Caride, Miss Puerto Rico 2016 will not be receiving her $ 3 Million earnings and her crown after a judge threw out the lawsuit that she filed in April alleging breach of contract and contractual damages.

According to Desiree Lowry, the national director of Miss Universe Puerto Rico, Caride got pregnant during her reign, was non-cooperative with reporters and did not use the salon that they provided instead preferring to use her own stylists which led the organizers to dethrone her and crown Brenda Jimenez, the pageant’s first runner-up as Miss Universe Puerto Rico 2016.

The journey to fame is getting to its peak as six finalists have emerged from the final elimination night. Indeed, it was a moment of jubilation for Elizabeth, Pere, and Dapo as they were saved by the people’s vote, faculty and other contestants. While these three contestants made it to the final, Eli and Oluchi joined fellow evictees Steve and Yusuf as they partied hard at the elimination party which took place at Echo Lounge, Lagos.

Pere, Winner, Elizabeth, Kitey, Dapo and Okemute were all in their ‘A’ game as they thrilled the audience to African classics and Nigerian hit songs of the 90s. The six finalists masterfully took everyone down memory lane with renditions of oldies that triggered fond memories among the studio audience.

Five people were injured today, following an accident involving a container truck and commercial bus . A statement issued by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency:

The Agency received a distress call at about 9.40 am today 24/9/2016 of a container accident at Ilupeju Oshodi Express Way inward Anthony.

On getting to the scene of the accident, It was gathered that the container while on high speed developed a mechanical fault(Propeller) swarved to the next lane into a moving 18 passenger Toyota Hiace commercial bus with registration number Lagos MUS 684XC. See more photos after the cut.

Shettima to NASS Member: “Abuja is not your home, come and give support to needs of your people or face their wrath”

Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima has warned members representing Borno at the National Assembly to stop absconding from the state.

 

The Governor made the call Monday when he hosted some members of the National Assembly, Borno state Executive Council, Borno State House of Assembly, Security formation in the state, top government officials, politicians and journalists to a Sallah feast immediately he returned from Konduga where he performed his Eid prayer.

dead body of an unidentified man was found floating on flood lwater at Ariara International market during the heavy downpour experienced in the city yesterday, September 13th. According to Abia Facts Newspaper, the naked body was later deposited at a police station around the popular market. The identity of the victim and how he died is not yet known.
